Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum

Gate of Heaven Cemetery is the largest of all the Erie Diocesan Cemeteries and is the unofficial gateway to the West County of Erie along the border of Millcreek Township and Fairview Township where West Lake Road and Millfair Road intersect. The land was purchased in the 1950's and Bishop Whealon consecrated the cemetery on June 30, 1968. The west side of the cemetery borders Lake Shore Country Club and the south side of the cemetery borders a soccer field and baseball field and are just a few of the reasons why many local residents enjoy walking the landscaped grounds. There is a chapel located next to the mausoleum on the east side of the cemetery where visitors can pray and reflect. Although space in the mausoleum has been selected, there are many graves available in the cemetery grounds as well as glass front and marble front cremation niches inside the mausoleum. Free-standing cremation niche columbariums will be added to the grounds in the Summer of 2023.
