2024 National Needs Collection
Pastors and administrators will find inside Bishop Persico’s letter introducing the 2024 National Needs Collection. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of July 13-14.

Stay safe online: Mail display name spoofing
Mail display name spoofing is a trick used by cybercriminals to make an email look like it’s from someone you know or trust. They change the name that appears in the “From” field of the email, but the actual email address is different. For example, you might get an email that looks like it’s from your boss, but the email address is not your boss’s real address. This tactic is often used in phishing attacks to trick people into sharing sensitive information or clicking on malicious links. It’s especially effective on mobile devices where you might only see the display name and not the full email address.

Updates needed for email usage
Updates are needed for all clergy and parish staff who check email through a Mac, smart phone or tablet, or Windows Mail. Starting mid-July, outdated versions of Outlook for iOS and Android for smart devices, as well as versions of Outlook for Mac and Windows Mail, and calendar applications will cease to work. Users must update to the latest versions for continued functionality and support. This does not impact Outlook for the desktop.

The following list details which versions Microsoft has retired. The version number can usually be found on the Help menu within the app.

  • Outlook for iOS versions prior to 4.2411. To find this, open the app > tap the round icon to the left of the word Inbox > tap the gear icon > Tap Help & Feedback > scroll down to see the version number at the bottom of the screen.
  • Outlook for Android versions before 4.2342.
  • Outlook for Mac versions older than 16.73.
  • Windows Mail and Calendar applications.
