Parishioners, employees: Be cautious about sharing personal information
Staff at a Diocese of Erie parish recently received an email from a scam artist claiming to be their pastor, requesting financial help. Please include the following notice in your weekly bulletin and forward it to your employees and volunteers to keep everyone safe from fraud. Here is the suggested notice to be published:
In this age when personal data can be misused by scam artists, please be aware that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, its clergy, and entities such as parishes and schools will never solicit your personal or business information by any method unless initiated by you. Should you receive an unsolicited request for such information – including a request for gift cards of any type – exercise extreme caution. Contact the person or entity by using official contact information only. Do not use contact information provided in the potential fraudulent request.
Missionary co-op
You will be receiving a call from your annual missionary co-op participant to schedule their 2023 visit over the next few weeks. Since missionary visits are slated to begin in May, please set dates with your assigned missionary as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Indira Suarez in the Office of International Missions at isuarez@eriercd.org or 814.824.1231.
Pastors, parish secretaries asked to update livestream Mass information
In the interest of keeping our website accurate, the Communications Office of the Diocese of Erie is asking all parishes to double-check the livestream Mass listings found through a tab on our homepage, www.ErieRCD.org. If your times or links have changed, if you are no longer livestreaming or if you are not listed and would like to be, please send details to Rich Papalia, webmaster, at RPapalia@ErieRCD.org. The direct link to the page is https://www.eriercd.org/livestreammass.html.
Catholic Services Appeal reminder from the Catholic Foundation
As the Catholic Services Appeal continues, the Catholic Foundation recommends that pastors and parish staff consider sending a follow-up letter to those parishioners who have not yet made a pledge to the appeal. Consider sending them a CSA brochure, along with a pledge envelope. Letter template ideas can be found in the parish leadership handbook. Extra brochures and pledge envelopes may be ordered by contacting Julia Cooney at 814.824.1253 or at jcooney@cfnwpa.org.
Don’t forget to thank your donors. A note or letter of thanks from the pastor is always appreciated. Donors can also be thanked through the bulletin, social media or in the parish newsletter. Additional resources, including many digital options and Facebook post suggestions, can be found at the following link: https://www.eriercd.org/Catholic-Services-Appeal-CSA-Materials.html.
