The second week of Lent:
Sunday, February 25 through Saturday, March 2, 2024
This week gives us a good opportunity to integrate prayer and fasting.
Use the extra time from your fast to spend time with God in prayer. Here are three options, but maybe you can find another. What works best for you?
Quiet Prayer
Create a quiet prayer space in your home. A place that is set aside for prayer could include a candle, a Bible and a nice cloth on a table. Be still, and gently bring to God what you are hungering for.
Praise
Listen to a song that helps you praise God.
Write your own prayer of praise to God for his faithfulness to you. Look to the Psalms for inspiration.
Worship
Attend a daily Mass, even if it’s livestreamed. St. Peter Cathedral, the mother church of the Diocese of Erie, offers one each day at 8 a.m.
Pray the rosary and/or Divine Mercy Chaplet. The repetition creates a grace-filled opportunity for communion with the Blessed Mother and the Holy Trinity.
God brings joy, but sometimes the noise in our lives makes it difficult to see, hear and enjoy him.
Replace a half hour of time on apps, games or other screen activities with prayer. It will get easier and easier to do, especially once you start reaping the benefits.
This week, ponder this reflection on Mother Teresa’s words:

“I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, ‘This is hungry Jesus, I must feed him. This is sick Jesus. This one has leprosy or gangrene; I must wash him and tend to him.’ I serve because I love Jesus.” ~ Mother Teresa
Practice being present. Put down your phone when someone is with you. Choose one time you are inclined to multitask and instead give the person your full attention.
