WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – The Church of the Good Shepherd marked the first anniversary of its food pantry with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week, celebrating a year of service to local families in need.

The pantry, established in partnership with the Mercer County Food Bank, has provided vital support to residents of West Middlesex and surrounding communities, addressing food insecurity in an area that was previously underserved.

“As part of its strategic plan, [Mercer County Food Bank] has been actively working to implement member agencies to assist the food bank in meeting the needs of our food-insecure neighbors residing in underserved and rural areas of the county,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of the food bank. “We are grateful to the Church of the Good Shepherd for answering this call last year, as neighbors now have access to nutritious food.”

Father Glenn Whitman, pastor of the church, recalled how the initiative began after learning about the high rate of food insecurity within parish boundaries. “It’s been a Godsend, not only for our neighbors but for our parish family,” he said.

The Church of the Good Shepherd Food Pantry operates on the first Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Those in need of food assistance in West Middlesex or the surrounding area can contact the parish at (724) 528-3539 for more information.

A year after its launch, the pantry remains committed to serving those in need, reinforcing the church’s mission of compassion and community outreach.
