From moving boxes to eternal homes

As one does after decades of living in the same house, I’ve come to acquire boxes, bins and totes full of “stuff.” To declutter my life, I told my mom we were going to make a fun game of moving!
We set a deadline for our pretend moving date and challenged ourselves to see how much we could get rid of before that date. Weekly trips to donation facilities have been extremely beneficial, but it also made me think about other areas of my life.
This world is just a brief stop on our way to our true destination, so why is it we pack and hoard so much? Not just excessive amounts of holiday decorations or seasonal sweaters, but internal baggage. We lug around hurt feelings, anger, fear and anxiety – daily!
Now is the time to do some internal purging as well. The time to start planning for our next home: our eternal home.
It is time to get rid of the feelings we don’t need and focus on home improvements. A fresh coat of a promise to love and to be loved. Some updated wiring to think more positively about our connections with others. And let’s add some inviting décor such as a warm smile and a helping hand.
We must focus on our actions to let others know that we are servants of the Lord, here to do his work. What a marvelous feeling to know that if we focus on these improvements, we are guaranteed keys to a kingdom and we don’t even need one moving box!
