Listening, Renewal and the Quiet Work of Grace

February invites us into a season of self-reflection and prayer. As Lent begins, the Catholic Church gently asks us to slow down, to examine our hearts and to ask where God is calling us to deeper conversion—not only as individuals, but as a people walking together in faith.
That preparation for spiritual renewal echoes throughout this edition of Faith magazine.
Our parish listening sessions continued through the Diocese of Erie, offering parishioners a meaningful space to share their hopes, concerns, joys and needs. These conversations are not quick fixes; they are patient acts of trust that help shape our shared path forward.
Lent also reminds us that faith is not inherited automatically — it is formed, nurtured and continually rediscovered. Our story on OCIA reflects this well. Across the diocese, young adults are courageously responding to God’s invitation to enter the Catholic Faith. Their journeys remind us that evangelization begins with welcome and accompaniment — meeting people where they are and walking with them toward Christ.
We are also grateful for the witness of our international priests, whose ministry will enrich our parishes in countless ways. Their presence reflects the universal nature of the church and the shared mission that unites us across cultures and continents. Their stories are living reminders that the Catholic faith is both deeply local and truly global.
The diocese also continues to walk through an episcopal transition with faith and confidence. This process, grounded in prayer and discernment, is not about uncertainty but trust — trust that the Holy Spirit remains at work, guiding the church with care and purpose. As outlined in this issue, it is a thoughtful, deliberate journey rooted in centuries of wisdom.
A lot of this meaningful work is because of you. Your generosity to the Catholic Services Appeal helps to support the many offices and ministries of the Diocese of Erie to be able to offer opportunities to encounter Christ, live our faith and share His love so that the mission of the church may continue to thrive across our diocese.
As Lent begins, may this season — and this issue — invite us to quiet reflection, renewed commitment and generous hearts.
